Girona and its surroundings
The historic centre of Girona, a candidate for monumental site status, is known as the Barri Vell (Old Quarter). Outstanding features include the basilica of Sant Feliu and the Cathedral, the monastery of Sant Pere de Galligants, the Arab Baths, the city walls and the Jewish Quarter. All in a network of streets, where stone is the main element and the buildings have evolved since the Roman, Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque eras.
You can also enjoy the picture-postcard setting of the houses on the River Onyar and its bridges.
Interesting old buildings converted into museums house unique and extraordinary pieces of great historic and artistic value.
Girona is a city to discover. Its stones still conceal part of the history from us, and from time to time, a new find reveals something more about the city: it opens up a new street, a tower or ancient texts to us.
